Beeline Has the Buzz on this Efficient Fuel

commercial propane Menasha, WIFood trucks have come a long way from basic sandwiches and tacos. Today’s mobile kitchens are serving up creative, high-quality cuisine—and often setting the trends the rest of the food world follows. Plenty of five-star restaurants got their start on four wheels, and propane is what keeps those kitchens cooking.

Dale Gas helps you stay fueled, mobile, and ready to serve. Our commercial propane team understands the fast pace and unique schedules of food truck operations, and we’ll tailor a propane program that fits the way you work—so you can focus on the food, not the fuel.

Little Tank, Big Power

There’s a reason professional cooks prefer cooking with gas. Whether you’re a grill cook turning out burgers for a busy lunch rush or a five-star chef serving food lovers at an exclusive gastropub, nothing beats the combination of high heat and precise control you get with gas. It’s a level of performance other cooking methods just can’t match.

That kind of control is essential for delivering consistent quality to your customers—so why give it up just because you’re cooking out of a truck?

Compared to electric cooking, propane heats faster, burns cleanly, and costs an average of 2.5 times less per Btu than electricity, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Propane is also extremely safe, with a very narrow range of flammability.

Propane also delivers reliable, consistent power. You could outfit a food truck with electric cooking equipment, but battery power gradually drops—and you’re limited to spots where you can plug in. With a propane cylinder, you get full, steady performance right up until the tank is empty.

Easy Refueling

With our convenient, customized commercial propane delivery program, we’ll work with you to tailor a delivery schedule to fit your usage patterns, whether you need daily or weekly deliveries. You can also opt for will-call deliveries if your usage is seasonal or less predictable. Depending on the size of the propane tanks you use, you may be able to take advantage of our commercial tank refill and exchange service.

Safety First

Propane is very safe. But it still requires training to ensure cylinders are handled and installed properly and the truck and its staff adhere to all National Fire Protection Association guidelines for propane food truck safety.

We will work with you to train your employees in the safe handling of propane cylinders, including how to inspect the equipment before each use, location and use of fire extinguishers, proper procedure for shutoff, simple leak tests, and more.

Environmental Safety

Customers are paying attention to your carbon footprint—whether it’s paper straws instead of plastic, or paper boxes over Styrofoam containers—they want to know you care as much as they do. And when it comes to environmental impact, propane gas wins hands down over a loud, smelly diesel generator. Propane burns cleanly, and produces minimal emissions.

The Right Diesel Provider Will Keep Your Farm Running Smoothly

diesel Neenah, WIRunning a farm is a round-the-clock commitment—especially when livestock is part of the picture. So much of what you do depends on factors you can’t control, from the weather to market conditions. That’s why it’s important to take care of the things you can control. Diesel fuel is important to keeping most agricultural operations running smoothly, so finding a diesel provider you can count on is a great way to do this.

Finding a Diesel Partner

When you have the right partner, keeping your farm equipment fueled and running well is easy. Here are three things to look for when you’re looking at a diesel provider:

  • Fair, transparent pricing. The price of fuel—diesel, regular and even propane—is one of things you can’t control. Going with a discount dealer may get you a cheap price, but you may lose out when it comes to quality and reliable service.
  • Reliable service. Running out of fuel for even a few hours can be a major setback when you’re working against weather, daylight, or harvest time. You need a diesel fuel dealer who can work with you to set up a delivery schedule that works for you.
  • The right fuels for the job. Dale Gas has got you covered with both on- and off-road diesel as well as ultra-low sulfur heating oil as well as propane to handle all your equipment, vehicle and heating needs.

Why Bulk Beats Retail

Here are some things to keep in mind before you buy your next batch of diesel fuel from a retail gas station:

  • Bulk savings: Buying diesel in bulk can help keep annual costs under control. Stock up when prices are low: Diesel will keep in a storage tank for two years or more. Plan ahead by looking over past use patterns to estimate how much fuel you need in advance, then buy in the shoulder seasons when demand is lower (that is, not during planting and harvest seasons).
  • Tax savings: If you currently buy on-road diesel from a gas station for your off-road equipment, you are unnecessarily paying taxes. With the ultra-low-sulfur dyed diesel that we deliver for off-road use, there is no federal excise tax.
  • Expert support: Our agricultural fuels team understands your needs, and your schedule. We can help make sure you have the fuel you need, delivered on time, along with safe secure storage solutions. We also have a full range of lubricants and use top-quality additives to optimize performance.

The Bottom Line

Dale Gas & Oil has been serving the farms and agricultural operations in northeastern Wisconsin for 75 years and counting. We’re here to help, with the right products and prices, and the experience to understand what you need.

When it comes to providing quality diesel fuel deliveries at fair prices, there’s a reason so many farmers choose us. It’s time to experience our great service and find out for yourself.

If you need reliable on- or off-road diesel at fair prices for your farm, contact the team at Dale today.

5 Creative Uses for Propane Beyond Heating and Cooking

img-fluid propane Appleton, WIIf you already rely on propane to heat your home or cook your meals, you know how efficient and comfortable it makes everyday living. But propane’s benefits don’t stop there. This versatile fuel can power so much more than your furnace or range—it can bring added comfort, convenience, and even a little fun to every corner of your home.

Because propane delivers powerful heat efficiently, it’s a smart, ecofriendly alternative to electricity for many household appliances that use heat or hot water—like dryers, dishwashers, and space heaters. And it’s not just about practicality. Propane also fuels lifestyle upgrades that add enjoyment and boost value to your home. Think cozy indoor fireplaces, outdoor lighting, patio and pool heaters, and of course, your grill.

Here are some of the best ways to put propane’s performance to work throughout your home—inside and out.

1. Indoor Fireplaces

A propane fireplace brings all the ambiance and warmth of a wood-burning fireplace to any room, without the mess, smoke, and ash. And unlike a traditional fireplace, you can install a propane-fueled fireplace just about anywhere: living room, dining room, bedroom, even the kitchen. Imagine the luxe, spa-like glamour of a fireplace in your master bath!

2. Outdoor Living

A comfortable outdoor living space can feel like an addition to your home, and propane can help extend the seasons. Adding safe and efficient propane patio heaters can let you enjoy your outdoor spaces earlier in the spring and later into the autumn. Fire pits and fire bowls are an attractive focal point and gathering space for entertaining friends and family. And propane-fueled pool and spa heaters will warm up the water much faster than an electric heater, and maintain the temperature better once the water is warm. As a result, propane pool heaters help you keep heating costs under control, while letting you enjoy your pool or spa more.

3. Grilling

If you have a propane range in your kitchen, you already know that nothing beats the precision and control you get cooking with gas. That’s why it’s the first choice of professional chefs in the kitchen—but it delivers the same precise temperature control on the patio. A propane grill makes outdoor cooking as easy as turning on your kitchen cooktop: Flip a switch, turn a knob and set your heat level. There’s less waiting time, too, because a propane grill is hot and ready to go in about 10 minutes. Compare that to 30 minutes or more to get charcoal hot.

4. Space Heating

Propane wall and space heaters make it easy to heat spaces your heating system doesn’t reach—like additions, sunrooms, attics, workshops, and garages. They’re also more attractive—and safer—than portable units.

5. Generators

What’s a better upgrade than peace of mind? When storms knock out power, a propane-fueled backup generator will keep your lights on, your refrigerator running and everything else powered up until the utility companies can make repairs. What’s more, a whole house generator can really boost your home’s value and even get you a lower rate on your homeowner’s insurance.

The Bottom Line

Don’t miss out on all the benefits this versatile fuel can deliver. From practical appliances to make your day-to-day easier, to easy upgrades to make your home feel more welcoming, propane packs power. The experts at Dale Gas have the experience and knowledge to answer all your questions and help make adding propane to your northeastern Wisconsin home easy. We’ll make sure you have the right size propane storage tank for your needs, and provide with great propane services like automatic delivery, smart payment plans to help keep costs manageable and so much more.

There’s a Job for Propane in Almost Any Business

commercial propane Outagamie, WIOne fuel, so many uses: Propane’s versatility is what makes it such a great option for commercial uses. It can be used for heating, for operating machinery, and even running vehicles. What’s more, propane is better for the environment—and your bottom line. Compared to other heating fuels, including electricity, propane:

  • Heats quickly and burns cleanly
  • Leaves a smaller carbon footprint
  • Costs on average 2.5 times less per Btu than heating with electricity, according to the U.S. Department of Energy
  • Is extremely safe, with a very narrow range of flammability

Here are just a few of the industries and commercial applications of propane. Imagine how it could work for your business!

Agricultural Propane Supply and Services

Propane delivers consistent heat ideal for warming livestock barns, hatcheries, and greenhouses. It’s nontoxic, and can’t “spill” so it can’t harm soil or groundwater. Clean-burning propane can power much of your landscaping and agricultural equipment, from commercial mowers to irrigation engines.

  • Commercial mowers and landscaping equipment
  • Irrigation equipment
  • Flame-weeders
  • Crop drying
  • Greenhouse and barn heating

Propane also puts less wear on equipment, keeping it out of the shop and keeping your operations running smoothly.

Forklifts

Warehouse management, construction, and industrial facilities rely on forklifts. Let our team show you why propane fueled forklifts will keep your operation running smoothly with less downtime. Here are just a few of the advantages:

  • Propane-fueled forklifts can be used outdoors in wet conditions, unlike electric-powered forklifts.
  • Propane-powered forklifts will operate at 100% power as long as there’s propane in the cylinder. An electric forklift loses power as the battery drains.
  • Refueling is quick and easy with replaceable cylinders. Recharging an electric forklift takes equipment out of service for hours, slowing down operations.
  • Propane-powered forklifts also handle heavy loads better and are more capable when it comes to inclines.

Machinery & Equipment

Propane’s versatility is a plus for your business or job site. In addition to forklifts, propane can be used to power a wide range of equipment, including:

  • welding equipment
  • asphalt heaters
  • concrete grinders, saws, polishers, trowels, and dust extractors
  • pressure washers
  • small cranes
  • water pumps
  • floor buffers
  • and more

Hospitality & Food Service

Professional chefs prefer gas for cooking. Hotels, hospitals, nursing facilities all benefit from propane for cooking, water heating and space heating, as well as for industrial washers and clothes dryers, just to name a few.

  • Food trucks
  • Restaurants
  • Laundromats
  • Hotels

Heating

Propane is a quick and clean source of heat that offers flexibility and efficiency. From industrial uses, such as portable heat on job sites, to practical applications, like tankless water heaters for handwashing in employee breakrooms, locker rooms and bathrooms, propane performs.

The Bottom Line

Quick heat, small carbon footprint, and great value, with a versatile range of uses: These are just a few of the reasons propane is a great solution for commercial applications. Manufacturing, construction, warehousing, agriculture, landscaping, hospitality, and a broad range of other industries all rely on commercial propane. If you’re looking for a fuel that offers good value and great efficiency, talk to the commercial propane team at Dale about all the ways propane can add value to your operation.

Troubleshooting Common Gas Grill Problems

grill tank Oshkosh, WIIt’s game day! The burgers are seasoned, the chicken wings are marinated, and the crowd is ready for kickoff. But just as you fire up the grill, you hear a strange hissing sound or notice your flames aren’t what they should be. Nothing ruins a fall football cookout faster than a grill that won’t cooperate—or worse, a leaking propane grill tank.

Is It a Leak?

If you hear hissing near your propane cylinder, immediately shut off the gas and extinguish all flames. On a hot, sunny day, that sound could be the pressure-relief valve doing its job as propane expands. It will close automatically once pressure returns to normal—you can help cool the tank by spraying it with water from a hose.

If the hissing continues or happens when it’s not particularly warm, it may be a leak. Here’s how you can check safely and easily:

  • Combine equal parts dish soap and water in a small container or spray bottle.
  • Make sure all the burner knobs are in the OFF position, but leave the propane tank valve open.
  • Brush or spray the soapy mixture onto the valve, regulator, and hose connections.
  • If you see bubbles forming, that means gas is escaping. You’ve found a leak.
  • Immediately close the propane cylinder valve. Do not use the grill until the problem is fixed.
  • Tighten loose connections if possible, then retest.

If bubbling continues, disconnect the tank, move it to a well-ventilated area, and let it empty completely. Once it’s empty, return it to your propane provider. Never attempt to transport a leaking cylinder.

More Troubleshooting Tips

If the flames from the burners are orange or yellow, something is clogging the burner. Spiders, dust, and leaves are the usual culprits. Make sure the grill is cool, then clean the burners thoroughly. After cleaning, run the grill on high for about 15 minutes to burn off any lingering debris.

Weak flames usually point to a regulator issue. Try turning everything off—including the propane cylinder—and disconnect the regulator. Wait five minutes, then reconnect it and slowly open the cylinder valve. Wait another minute, then relight the grill.

No flame at all? That’s usually an igniter problem. Battery-powered igniters may just need new batteries. For piezo igniters (the type without batteries), try lighting the burners with a match. If that works, check for cracks in the ceramic tube or loose wires. If you still can’t get a spark, you may need professional service.

Out of Propane?

This is the easiest problem to fix: Dale Gas offers safe and convenient tank refills at our Dale, WI location. It’s always smart to have a spare cylinder on hand. And ask about cylinder refill specials!

We Make Propane Delivery Easy

propane tank Menasha, WIAn empty propane tank is not just a hassle. It’s also expensive: Runouts can result in pressure problems and leaks, so we are required to perform (and charge you for) pressure testing. That’s why it’s important to know how to check your propane tank level—especially if you’re a will-call customer.

The good news is that checking the gauge on your propane tank is as easy as reading the fuel gauge in your car. Here’s what you need to know.

The even better news is that Dale Gas offers easy solutions so you don’t need to remember to check your propane tank levels. Still, knowing how to read the gauge is a good skill to have.

How to Read Your Gauge

If you have an above-ground propane storage tank, the gas gauge is at the top of the tank, under a lid or dome. If you have an underground tank, the gauge will be near the fill pipe.

You’ll see a dial that looks a lot like a speedometer, with numbers going around the edge, and a single pointer. The numbers indicate what percent of gas is in your tank.

Keep in mind that because propane needs room to expand, your tank will never be filled to more than 80%. Always call for a delivery before your tank falls below 20% so we have time to schedule a delivery. Call when it hits 30% in the winter.

If your tank falls below a certain level, you could lose pressure, which can lead to problems with equipment, including your propane-fueled furnace or boiler.

Remember that propane contracts when it’s cold. When it’s extremely cold outside, the volume of propane inside your aboveground propane tank will shrink, which creates a loss of pressure. An underground tank will not be affected by cold because it’s insulated.

The Convenience of Auto-fill

Dale Gas offers free auto-fill service so you don’t need to remember to check your gauge or schedule propane deliveries—even when it’s been extra cold. Thanks to a proven industry algorithm based on your past usage and average daily temperatures, we can calculate your propane use and makes sure we fill your propane tank on time. Auto-fill deliveries mean you don’t have to worry about checking your propane tank gauge, and you can rest easy knowing we won’t let you run out.

Auto-fill service makes things easier on our end too: We are better able to plan deliveries using the most efficient routes to get to everyone quickly. That saves time and money—savings we can pass on to you. You don’t even need to be home for the delivery.

Wireless Tank Monitors

If your propane use fluctuates a lot—for example seasonal homeowners, people running rental properties, or homeowners who use propane exclusively for things like gas fireplaces, auto-fill service may not work. For those customers, our wireless propane monitor is a genius solution. It tracks the level of propane in your tank in real time, and transmits your usage via wireless cellular technology. When the tank gauge reaches a pre-set level, the monitor alerts us—and you—directly via a wireless mobile app—and sets up a delivery.

We’re Here for You

We love the technology that makes all this possible, but of course, we still believe in old-fashioned customer service. That’s why our friendly and knowledgeable team is always happy to take your call and answer any questions

With One Easy Move, You Never Need to Call for a Propane Delivery Again

propane Neenah, WIWhen it comes to chores, nobody is looking for more tasks. Even an easy call, like setting up a propane delivery, can fall few the cracks in a busy schedule. And that can mean a big hassle: A propane runout can result in pressure problems and more. Knowing when to call for a propane delivery can help you avoid those issues, but signing up for our autofill program can take that item off your to-do list for good.

When to Call for Propane

The best time to call for propane is when the gauge on your tank hits 30%. That lets us know you’re running low, but gives us time to schedule your delivery rather than make an emergency trip.

An emergency fill-up costs extra, not to mention the expense of a leak test for safety. What’s more, when propane levels get too low, air can get into your system, which can lead to expensive damage.

Make sure you know where to find your tank gauge and how to read it. If you have an above-ground propane storage tank, you’ll find the gas gauge right at the top of the tank, usually under a lid or dome. On underground tanks, the gauge is near the fill pipe. The gauge looks a lot like a speedometer, with numbers going around the edge, and a single pointer. The numbers indicate what percent of gas is in your tank.

Another advantage to automatic deliveries is that we can plan our routes more efficiently, which helps us save money—savings we can pass on to you.

Go Wireless

We also offer wireless tank monitoring. This option is great if your propane use is not as predictable—for example if you use propane mainly for a fireplace or supplemental heat, or if it’s a second home.

Wireless tank monitors track the level of propane in your tank in real time, and transmit your usage via wireless cellular technology. When the tank gauge reaches a preset level, the monitor alerts us—and you—directly via the wireless mobile app.

We’ll Help You Recycle an Old Propane Cylinder

grill tankA bit more rust, a few more dings and dents: Maybe your trusty propane tank cylinder has seen better days. Rather than try to eke out one more summer, you might be thinking about disposing of it and replacing it with a new tank.

If you come to Dale Gas for your refills, we’ll let you know if it’s time to replace it—and we can handle disposing of your old tank properly. We accept most sizes for recycling—and we’ll let you know where you can take any cylinders we don’t accept. Typically, one-pound tanks should go to your local hazardous waste or recycling center. They cannot be left curbside, and must be completely empty. These tanks come with a key to allow you to release any remaining propane before dropping it off.

How to Recycle a Grill Tank

While a propane grill tank is metal and looks a lot like a can, you cannot put it in with your other recycling. If for some reason, you can’t bring your old tank to us, it’s important that you dispose of it properly.

One of the main reasons is that if the cylinder is not completely empty of propane gas, it could explode when it is run through the various machinery at the recycling center. This is the same reason that you can’t just put it in your regular trash.

Consult the public works department or hazardous waste management office to ask where and how to dispose of old tanks.

Refill or Exchange?

You might ask why bother with owning a portable tank. And there’s a lot to love about the convenience of swap-and go tank exchange and the ease of not worrying about the age or condition of your tank.

But smart customers love the savings they get by refilling. When you own your propane grill tank and refill it, you can save money in a few ways.

First, you’ll save on the price of the propane. The difference can be up to $1.75 per gallon! Dale offers refills for just $10.88 on weekdays and Saturday mornings till noon.

You also save because you’ll pay only for the propane you use. When you choose to refill your propane tank, you’re only buying the propane to fill the rest of your cylinder.

Think about it: When you swap out a cylinder, you’re charged for all the propane in the cylinder—including the propane left in the tank when you take it to be exchanged. That’s because for most folks, the instinct is to take the tank in to exchange before you run out. So unless you run them until they’re completely empty, you could be wasting half a tank or more over the span of a few tanks.

We Make It Easy

Dale gas makes it easy to keep the good times going with easy grill tank sales and refills. Just come by our store to fill up your tank or pick up a spare. Contact us today more information!

Understanding the Drivers of Higher Fuel Prices

diesel Outagamie, WIWhen you need to fill up a fleet of heavy-duty trucks or construction vehicles, diesel fuel prices are a constant point of concern. While it’s easy to notice prices rising or falling at the pump, understanding the why behind these changes is more complex. Diesel prices are influenced by a combination of taxes, production costs, and market demand—factors that can shift quickly. Meanwhile, diesel has on-road and off-road uses that make it indispensable for many businesses. But the cost of fueling up can really hit your bottom line.

Taxes

The federal motor fuel excise tax is 18.4 cents per gallon for gasoline, but it’s 24.4 cents per gallon for diesel. States also impose their own taxes, that are also higher on diesel. In Wisconsin, the total state taxes on diesel fuel amount to 32.9 cents per gallon, comprising two components: a motor vehicle fuel tax of 30.9 cents per gallon, and a petroleum inspection fee of 2 cents per gallon.

Production Costs

Diesel starts its life as crude oil, and fluctuations in crude oil prices directly impact diesel production costs. When global crude prices spike—due to geopolitical instability, natural disasters, or production cuts from major oil-exporting countries—the cost to refine and distribute diesel rises.

Diesel is also more energy-intensive to refine than gasoline, which means refining capacity plays a crucial role. If refineries are offline for maintenance or due to unexpected disruptions, supply tightens and prices typically go up. A 2014 Environmental Protection Agency standard requires all diesel to limit its sulfur to 15 parts per million. This lowered diesel emissions significantly, but it also raised the expense of refining it.

Finally, seasonal factors, such as the shift to winter blend fuels or hurricane season in the Gulf Coast, can also influence diesel supply and pricing.

Demand

Demand is always higher for diesel. Freighters, tractors, trains, forklifts, construction equipment all need diesel to run, and that demand is steady. But one barrel of crude oil only produces about 11-12 gallons of diesel, compared to 19-20 for gasoline. That keeps supply tight.

Of course during economic slowdowns or off-peak construction seasons, demand can dip and prices may fall—but your business may be slowing as well, along with your need for diesel.

Keeping Diesel Costs Manageable

As a local, independent fuel company, we can’t do much to lower taxes or refining costs, or control the other factors that drive up diesel prices. But Dale Gas & Oil’s commercial fleet fueling services team can help you save time and money. Our wholesale pricing and bulk fuel discounts can help you can save money on the fuel you need to run your fleet. And on-site fueling keeps your fleets on the road and on the job—rather than filling up at the gas station.

Our commercial and business partnerships are important to us, and we provide the same superb and attentive service to our commercial accounts as to our residential clients. We’re committed to delivering real value that goes beyond competitive prices.

How to Be Sure There’s Always Propane in Your Tank

propane tank Oshkosh, WIIf you’ve ever run out of propane, you know how much of a hassle it is. It’s more than just an inconvenience: an emergency fill-up costs extra, and you’ll also need to pay for a leak test to ensure safety. Even letting your tank get too low can cause problems. When propane levels drop too low, air can get into the system, leading to potentially expensive damage. As a general rule, you shouldn’t let your tank’s propane level fall below 30%.

But who has time to constantly check propane tank levels? We get it. The good news is, it’s easy to ensure you always have enough propane in your tank to avoid runouts and low-pressure issues. Read on to learn how to cross not one, but two chores off your to-do list for good.

Autofill Service

Our Autofill service is a customer favorite and a great way to prevent runouts. It’s exactly what it sounds like: we automatically deliver propane when you need it. This free service eliminates the need to check your tank’s level or call to schedule a delivery.

Sounds like magic, right? So, how does it work?

It’s not a crystal ball. We use a proven industry method to calculate your fuel usage. Our algorithm is based on your past usage and average daily temperatures, ensuring we can fill your tank right on time.

Wireless Monitoring

Many of our customers love the peace of mind that comes with our automatic delivery service. But Autofill relies on fairly consistent propane use. If your usage varies—say, for a second home, or if you travel frequently, or only use propane for seasonal appliances like a fireplace—this might not be the best solution for you.

That’s why we offer real-time accuracy through our wireless propane tank monitoring service.

Wireless tank monitors track the level of propane in your tank in real time and transmit your usage via wireless cellular technology. When the tank reaches a preset level, the monitor alerts both us and you via the mobile app.

Along with timely alerts, the app also gives you more control and insight. You can use it to track and adjust your monthly energy consumption—helping you save on energy costs.

Old-Fashioned Service

If you prefer to monitor your tank levels yourself, it’s important to check your gauge regularly to avoid running too low. The best time to call for a delivery is when your tank reaches about a quarter full. This gives us ample time to schedule a delivery before you run out.

No matter which option you choose, we still believe in old-fashioned customer service. Our friendly, local customer service representatives are always happy to take your call and answer any questions.
